Imphal: In a series of successful operations, Manipur Police and security forces have apprehended multiple active members of proscribed outfits, recovering a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and incriminating materials. The arrests mark a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against extortion and insurgent activities in the state.
On March 12, two members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) – City Meitei faction, identified as Soibam Inaocha Singh (24) and Thongam Deepak Singh alias Inao (36), were arrested from Lamsang Bazar in Imphal West district. The duo was allegedly involved in extortion across Imphal. Police recovered two mobile phones and a brown wallet containing Rs 1,100 from their possession.
In another operation the same day, security forces apprehended Laishram Boinao alias Boi alias Laingam (36), an active cadre of KCP (PWG), from Heirok Part-III, Uyokching, in Thoubal district. A substantial arsenal was seized from him, including a .303 Light Machine Gun (LMG) with two magazines, an SLR magazine, 66 live rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades, two handheld radio sets, and multiple bulletproof vests with camouflage gear.
Earlier, on March 11, police arrested Leihaorungbam (N) Laishram (O) Sanatombi Devi alias Ichal (45), an active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), from Langol Game Village Zone III in Imphal West. She was allegedly distributing extortion letters to doctors and shopkeepers in the city. A mobile handset and a demand letter were seized from her.
The recent arrests highlight the intensified efforts of Manipur Police in dismantling insurgent networks and curbing extortion activities. Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance across the state, ensuring public safety and reinforcing law and order.
