Manipur Police Crack Down on Militants, Arrest Five in Coordinated Operations

Imphal: In a series of successful counter-insurgency operations, Manipur Police arrested five active militants from different proscribed groups on February 15, dealing a major blow to insurgent activities in the state.

Four members of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-PWG) were apprehended from Huikap Village near an oil pump in Andro, Imphal East district. The arrested individuals, identified as Chaphamayum Sunder Singh (39), Nongthombam Boinao Meitei (48), Leichongbam Ibesana Devi (26), and Maibam Tony Chanu (23), were allegedly involved in extortion and the transportation of arms and ammunition. Security forces seized two 9mm pistols with magazines, ten live 9mm rounds, one .32 caliber round, several incriminating documents and booklets, seven mobile phones, a sling bag, and two ID cards from their possession.

In a separate operation on the same day, Bishnupur District Police apprehended Yumlembam Arunkumar Singh (36), an active cadre of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-PRO). He was arrested from Okshongbung Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district for his alleged involvement in extortion and other illegal activities. Authorities seized a mobile phone with an Airtel SIM card and an Aadhaar card from him.

The arrests mark a significant success in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and organized crime. Investigations are underway, and security forces are maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent further militant activities.
