Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces conducted a series of operations across the state on March 23, resulting in the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and the arrest of multiple militants, including key members of the PREPAK(Pro) group.
In a major operation in Kumbi Terakhong, Bishnupur District, authorities apprehended three PREPAK(Pro) cadres identified as Oinam Abung Meitei (31), Yumlembam Romesh Singh (47), and RK Navy Meitei (32). The raid led to the seizure of a .303 LMG with magazines, various types of ammunition, grenade components, and a four-wheeler vehicle. Officials believe the group was involved in armed activities and extortion in the region.
Another PREPAK(Pro) operative, Md. Taj Khan (37), was arrested at Mantripukhri Bazar in Imphal East District. According to police sources, he was actively engaged in extortion targeting local businesses, adding to the group’s funding efforts.
In a separate operation, security forces captured Shagolshem Prabin Singh (27), an active cadre of the proscribed UNLF group, who was allegedly extorting money from transport vehicles in Imphal West.
Additionally, authorities detained two members of the Arambai Tenggol outfit, Kshetrimayum Nikhil Singh (28) and Yumnam Pringanba Singh (23), in connection with a recent clash against the UNLF(P) faction at Kongpal Khong on March 22. The arrests follow the capture of four UNLF(P) members linked to the same incident, signaling intensified efforts by law enforcement to curb inter-group violence and maintain peace.
Officials have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and further operations will be carried out to dismantle militant networks operating within the state.
