Manipur Police Crackdown Nabs Nine, Seizes Drugs Worth Lakhs

IMPHAL – In a multi-district sweep, Manipur Police have arrested nine individuals and confiscated a significant cache of illegal drugs over a two-day operation, signalling a major offensive against the state’s drug trade. The coordinated raids in Churachandpur, Senapati, Thoubal, and Imphal West districts have resulted in seizures of heroin, WY tablets, and other narcotics, hitting drug syndicates hard.

The most substantial bust unfolded on August 26 in Churachandpur district, where five men were apprehended from various villages, including Behiang and Bualkot. The suspects—Kaigunlal Haokip (22), Dalzagin (47), Seigoulal Haokip (32), Thangkhohao (34), and Samuel (30)—were caught with 728 grams of suspected heroin, expertly concealed in 56 soap cases. Officers also seized three vehicles—a Bolero, a scooter, and a Pulsar motorcycle—used in the trafficking.

The momentum continued on August 27 in Senapati, where a police team made a pivotal arrest near Martyr’s Park. Md. Yunush Khan (31) was taken into custody with 92 packages of suspected WY tablets, a psychotropic substance weighing over 2.2 kilograms. His vehicle, a Tata Winger, was also impounded.

In a separate action, officers in Thoubal district raided the residence of Md. Azad Khan (32), where they uncovered a medley of psychotropic substances, including 900ml of codeine, 12 grams of brown sugar, and 20 grams of methamphetamine. A substantial cash amount of Rs 1,46,550, suspected to be drug proceeds, was also recovered.

The crackdown had begun in Imphal West district, with the earlier arrest of two drug peddlers, S. Davihai Mikrii (21) and Ngaoloni (48). They were found with 341 grams of brown sugar hidden in 30 soap cases near Jail Road, Old Lambulane.

In unrelated news, a separate police team has made a breakthrough in a criminal case by arresting Nepuni (35) from Khridziiphi Village. He is the second person to be taken into custody in connection with a rape and assault case that was registered on May 17 following an incident at Ngamju village. A third suspect remains at large, with police continuing their search.
