Manipur Police Deny Allegations of SP’s Involvement with Kuki Militants
Imphal: Manipur Police have strongly refuted allegations made by the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) regarding the involvement of the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ukhrul district in assisting Kuki militants. The police dismissed these claims, which had been circulated in a press release and reported by several media outlets on January 11, as “blatantly false.”
In a social media post, the Manipur Police clarified that the Ukhrul district police’s role was solely limited to providing logistical support for security operations. Specifically, they had assisted Border Security Force (BSF) teams by offering guides and security escorts for construction activities in the region. The operations in question took place in December 2024, on the 12th and 19th, when the police escorted trucks carrying labourers and materials to construct BSF security barracks in Molham Kuki village.
The police further emphasized that these actions were carried out based on requests from the BSF and Kangpokpi District police, and in accordance with directives from Police Headquarters. The involvement of the Ukhrul district police was entirely official and focused on supporting security infrastructure projects.
In response to the accusations, the Manipur Police urged the media and the public to verify information before publishing it. They stressed the potential harm caused by unverified reports, particularly at a sensitive time when efforts are underway to restore peace and stability in Manipur.
The police statement underscored the importance of fact-checking to prevent misinformation from tarnishing the reputation of law enforcement officers, specifically pointing out that such unsubstantiated claims damage the image of both the Ukhrul District Police and the SP.
The construction of the security barracks in Molham Kuki village is part of broader efforts to enhance security infrastructure in the region, particularly for the BSF, which plays a key role in border security and law enforcement in Manipur.
