Manipur Police Destroy Illegal Poppy Cultivation in Tamenglong

Northeast Desk, 3rd October: In a significant step towards combating illegal poppy cultivation, the Superintendent of Police in Tamenglong, along with personnel from the Tamei Police, successfully destroyed poppy plantations in the Kadi-IV and Kwilong areas.

This operation forms part of the ongoing statewide campaign to eradicate illegal poppy plantations and curb the drug trade. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed his appreciation for the efforts on social media, stating, “Appreciate your efforts in eradicating the illegal plantations of poppy and drugs businesses from our Manipur state. We will not rest until these poppy plantations and the drug menace are completely eradicated from Manipur.”

The Manipur government has been actively working towards eliminating drug-related issues, with a focus on destroying illegal plantations and reducing the influence of drugs in the region. In September, CM Biren Singh announced that authorities had seized drugs worth Rs 60,000 crore and destroyed 18,000 hectares of poppy cultivation as part of their efforts amid the ongoing crisis in the state.

Earlier today, CM Singh attended the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) at Loktak Hall, Manipur Press Club, Imphal. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister acknowledged the unprecedented crisis in the state, which has led to loss of lives and displaced many residents into relief camps for shelter.
