Manipur Police Foils Major Heroin Smuggling Bid

Imphal– In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Manipur Police on Saturday successfully intercepted a substantial consignment of heroin in Imphal West district. The meticulously planned operation led to the seizure of illicit drugs and the arrest of one individual.

Acting on precise intelligence inputs, law enforcement officials flagged down a white Maruti A-Star at Singjamei Chinga Makhong, falling under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station. A thorough search of the vehicle unearthed 10 soap cases, meticulously packed and concealed, containing suspected Heroin No. 4. The confiscated narcotics weighed approximately 105.4 grams, cleverly hidden to evade detection by authorities.

The driver and lone occupant of the car, identified as Md. Azad Yumkhaibam, 32, hailing from Irong Cheisaba, Irong Umang Khunou in Thoubal district, was immediately taken into custody at the scene. The Maruti A-Star, central to the drug smuggling attempt, has also been impounded by the police.

Police officials confirmed that formal charges have been filed against the accused under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This latest operation underscores the unwavering commitment of Manipur Police in its relentless battle against the pervasive illegal drug trade plaguing the state. Further investigations are actively underway to unearth the origins of the seized consignment and to dismantle the broader network involved in this illicit enterprise.
