Manipur Police Intensify Crackdown, Net Three Militants and SIM Card Supplier
Imphal: In a significant push against insurgent activities, Manipur Police and other security forces on Sunday conducted extensive operations across the state, leading to the apprehension of three individuals linked to proscribed outfits and one man accused of supplying crucial communication links to underground groups. The coordinated efforts underscore the state’s resolve to curb extortion rackets and illegal activities by militant organisations.
Among those apprehended was Huiningsungbam George Bush Meitei alias Lalloiba, 18, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group). He was nabbed from Lamphel Grace Colony in Imphal West for his alleged involvement in extortion activities. Authorities recovered a mobile handset, an iPad Air, and an Aadhaar card from his possession during the arrest.
In a separate action, Thokchom Wilson Singh alias BK, 26, an active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), was taken into custody from Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai in Imphal East. Singh was reportedly engaged in collecting extortion money from various local shops and retailers in areas spanning Canchipur, Mantripukhri, and Kakwa. A mobile phone was seized from him at the time of his arrest.
Further intensifying their crackdown on the support networks of these groups, police also arrested 43-year-old Khumanthem Bikramjit Singh from Thoubal district. He is accused of supplying SIM cards to various underground groups, including PREPAK (PRO). These SIM cards were reportedly used by insurgents operating from Myanmar to extort money from residents in Thoubal. From his possession, police recovered a Realme mobile phone, two active SIM cards, and over 100 additional SIM cards from various service providers, highlighting the scale of his alleged operation.
Meanwhile, the state police continued their enforcement drive on traffic regulations. On Sunday alone, 15 challans were issued for traffic violations, accumulating fines totalling ₹26,500. This follows a special drive conducted on Saturday, during which tinted films were removed from 16 vehicles, reinforcing road safety norms.
Security forces maintained a high state of vigilance, with intensified search operations and area domination efforts in vulnerable and fringe areas. To ensure the smooth flow of essential supplies, a convoy of 217 vehicles carrying vital items moved along National Highway-37 under tight security protection. Across the state, 111 checkpoints were established as part of ongoing vigilance measures, leading to the detention of six individuals for further verification.
