Manipur Police Launch Verification Drive Following Pahalgam Attack
Imphal: In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Manipur police have declared a widespread “survey and verification” operation aimed at identifying and addressing the presence of illegal Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals within the state. The initiative underscores heightened security concerns and a proactive approach to managing undocumented foreign residents.
The police force will focus its verification efforts on several key areas within the Imphal Valley, specifically targeting Lilong, Minuthong, Kwakta, Mayang Imphal, Sora, and Kairang. These locations have been identified based on intelligence suggesting a potential concentration of individuals residing without the necessary legal documentation, such as valid visas or Inner Line Permits (ILP).
Top-ranking police officials have issued clear directives to local police stations, mandating a thorough verification of the residential status of individuals within these designated zones. The instructions also include a mandate to initiate appropriate legal proceedings against any unauthorised immigrants who are discovered during the course of this operation.
This latest security undertaking reflects an ongoing effort by authorities in the northeastern state to tackle the complex issue of undocumented foreign nationals. Manipur has historically experienced significant tensions related to immigration, making this verification drive a crucial step in maintaining law and order and addressing potential security vulnerabilities in the region.
