Manipur Police Nab KYKL Cadre, Murder Suspect; Arms and Ammunition Recovered
Imphal: In a major crackdown on insurgency and criminal activities, Manipur Police arrested an active member of the banned outfit KYKL and a suspect linked to a recent murder case, while also recovering arms and ammunition from Imphal East District.
Based on intelligence inputs, security forces apprehended Shamjetsabam Romananda Singh, a 23-year-old cadre of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), from Imphal International Airport under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District. The operation, conducted on February 26, is seen as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities in the region.
In a separate operation, police arrested 44-year-old Potshangbam Sanahan Meitei from Poirei, Imphal East, in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Laishram Malemngamba. The murder, which took place on February 10, had raised concerns among residents, and Meitei’s arrest marks a crucial breakthrough in the case.
Meanwhile, security forces intensified their crackdown on illegal weapons, conducting a search operation in Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai, Imphal East District. The operation, carried out on February 24, led to the seizure of a single-barrel gun, ten .303 rifle cartridges, three tear gas shells, and eleven .32 bore rounds near the eastern end of Kiyamgei Bridge. The recovery of arms has reinforced security measures in the region, as authorities continue their efforts to dismantle criminal networks and insurgent activities.
