Manipur Police Nabs Five Insurgents in Coordinated Crackdown
Imphal, Manipur: In a significant breakthrough against insurgent activities, Manipur Police have apprehended five active cadres belonging to three different proscribed outfits in a series of targeted operations across Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts. The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb militancy in the state.
Acting on precise intelligence, three members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba City Meitei) were taken into custody in Imphal East. Phijam Joychandra Meitei (35) and Oinam Nitranjit Singh (21) were intercepted in Huidrom village while they were reportedly heading to a brick kiln to collect extortion money. Their interrogation led to the swift arrest of their associate, Soram Abungcha Meitei (39), from Kairang Maning Leikai. Authorities recovered a Vespa scooter, two mobile phones, three ID cards, and a wallet containing ₹700 in cash from the trio.
In a separate, concurrent operation, security forces successfully apprehended Hidangmayum Kishankumar Sharma (27), an active member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL-SOREPA), from Tentha Khunou Bazar in Thoubal district. Sharma was allegedly involved in a range of illicit activities, including extortion, issuing threats, kidnapping, and demanding money in the region. A mobile handset was seized from his possession.
Furthermore, in another swift action, Yumnam Koko Singh (23), an active member of the KCP (MFL), was arrested from his residence in Eshingthembi Mapan, Imphal East.
All five individuals are presently in police custody, and comprehensive investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full scope of their operations and their wider connections within the insurgent networks.
