Manipur Police Nabs Three UNLF-P Cadres in Extortion Crackdown

Imphal, Manipur: Manipur Police on Tuesday, June 24, successfully apprehended three active cadres of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) from the Babupara area in Imphal West. The arrests mark a significant blow against insurgent activities, particularly those involving extortion and coercion of government employees for securing contract work.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Konthoujam Opendro Singh (46), also known as Ibomcha, a resident of Mongsangei Awang Leikai, Imphal West district; Tokpam Tomcha Singh (55), residing in Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai, Imphal East district; and Keithellakpam Saratchandra Mangang (53), of Khurai Soibam Leikai Ahongei Leirak, Imphal East district.

Following their apprehension, a substantial cache of arms and other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession. The seized items include two 9 mm pistols along with two magazines, eight rounds of 9 mm ammunition, one .32 calibre pistol with one magazine loaded with four rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, four mobile phones, one brown wallet, Rs. 3,800 in cash, two Aadhaar cards, one black side bag, and a red-and-black TVS NTORQ scooter with its key.

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to dismantle the broader network involved in this extortion racket and identify any additional links. This operation underscores the unwavering commitment of Manipur Police to combat insurgent efforts aimed at disrupting government processes through intimidation and illegal means.
