Manipur Police Net Dozens in Sweeping Crackdown on Militant Outfits and Extortion

Imphal: In a significant push to quell unlawful activities, Manipur Police and security forces have executed extensive combing operations and cordon-and-search initiatives across the state, resulting in the apprehension of numerous individuals linked to various militant organizations and extortion schemes.

The intensified efforts yielded a major breakthrough on May 10, 2025, with the arrest of two active operatives belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) in Imphal West. The apprehended individuals, identified as Ningthoujam Kiran Meitei, also known as Boinao, and Sorokhaibam Inaocha Singh, were allegedly deeply involved in extorting funds from government departments and civilians within the valley region. Authorities successfully recovered a substantial quantity of ammunition, communication devices, a protective bulletproof vest, and a camouflage helmet from their possession.

Continuing their operations on the same day, law enforcement officials apprehended another member of the KCP (Apunba), Abujam Manoj Singh, in Salam Maning Leikai, Patsoi. During the arrest, a mobile phone and 46 live rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition were seized from his custody.

Security forces further expanded their reach by apprehending Sogolsem Thoithoi, alias Samson, a cadre associated with the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), in Mayang Langjing Kwaisphai. He is accused of extorting money from government-run schools and the general public in the Imphal area. Two mobile phones were recovered in connection with his arrest.

The crackdown continued with the apprehension of Ingudam Ingocha Singh, a cadre of PREPAK (Pro), in Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East, on the same day. He was allegedly involved in the transportation of logistics, arms, and food supplies for the organization.

Another PREPAK (Pro) operative, Sarangthem Premananda Singh, was also taken into custody in the Kakching District. He is suspected of engaging in local extortion activities, and a mobile phone was confiscated from him.

Extending their operations further, authorities arrested Salam Kifson Luwang, a member of the G5 organization, which is affiliated with PREPAK. He was apprehended in Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi Maning and was found in possession of a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card.

The preceding day, May 9, witnessed the arrest of four cadres belonging to the KCP (MC Progressive) from various locations spanning Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts. These coordinated raids led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones.

Further arrests on May 9 and 10 included Ningombam Jiten Singh, a member of KCP (PWG), from Thoubal; Khangembam Ningthem Meitei, a PREPAK (Pro) cadre, from Nongpok Sekmai; and Sagolshem Sanatomba Singh, an individual accused in a National Investigation Agency (NIA) case, also from Thoubal.

In an unrelated development, police apprehended four individuals for their alleged involvement in the looting of 18 mobile phones and two smartwatches, collectively valued at Rs 5.5 lakh. The suspects, all residents of Imphal West, were found in possession of 11 of the stolen phones, two vehicles, and one smartwatch.

As part of their broader efforts to maintain law and order, Manipur Police also conducted a special vehicle drive, resulting in the recovery of one stolen vehicle and the removal of illegal tinted glasses from 94 other vehicles.

Reaffirming their commitment to public safety, security forces have declared their unwavering resolve to continue these operations as part of a comprehensive state-wide crackdown targeting extortion, militant activities, and all associated criminal endeavors.
