Manipur Police Net Seven Insurgents, Seize Large Weapons Cache in Coordinated Raids
Imphal: Manipur Police have successfully dismantled several active insurgent cells, apprehending seven individuals across multiple districts on March 19th. The coordinated operations resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition, disrupting potential militant activities in the region.
In a key operation within the Bishnupur District, law enforcement detained three individuals linked to the KCP (City Meitei) organization. Khumukcham Ibomcha Singh, aged 47 and known as Thabungton, was among those apprehended, along with Yumnam Premkumar Singh, 42, and Yumnam Anandkumar Singh, 36, both residents of Thingkangphai Village in Churachandpur. The arrest led to the recovery of an M-20 pistol complete with a magazine, assorted ammunition, and crucial communication devices, including three Baofeng wireless sets, highlighting the group’s operational capabilities.
Further operations in the same district resulted in the arrest of Salam Brojen Singh, a 47-year-old active member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak. Singh, who had prior affiliations with KCP(Taibanganba), was captured in the Sandangkhong area, under the jurisdiction of Kumbi Police Station. Investigations revealed his involvement in extortion and intimidation targeting government officials. Authorities seized eight demand letters issued by SOREPA and a list detailing 38 schools in Bishnupur District, underscoring the extent of his illicit activities.
The most substantial seizure of weaponry occurred near Border Pillar 76 in Tengnoupal District. Security forces apprehended two militants, Laishram Tomba Singh, 27, associated with PREPAK (Pro), and Yumnam Roshan Meitei, 33, of KYKL. This operation resulted in the confiscation of a Light Machine Gun, an AK-56 rifle, over 300 rounds of various ammunition, communication equipment, and an assortment of military gear. The scale of the recovered arsenal indicates a significant disruption of the insurgent group’s operational capacity in the region.
