Manipur Police Raid Power Discom MD’s Office Over Irregularities In Saubhagya Scheme

Guwahati: N. Sarat Singh, the managing director of the Manipur State Power Distribution Company, was in his home and office on Monday when a police team led by the superintendent of police in Kakching conducted a raid.

The raid comes in response to claims of extensive fraud, manipulation, and theft of funds while conducting “Saubhagya,” the Center’s main initiative, which cost over Rs 200 crore.

More information is awaited as the raid continues.

The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA), a programme that allows the most impoverished people to afford electricity in their homes, was introduced in Manipur in November 2017 by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

A total of approximately 1.75 lakh households (1.62 lakh rural and 0.13 lakh urban households) in Manipur were proposed to be included under the Scheme.
