Manipur Police Recruits to Train in Assam Amid Tense Situation, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Northeast Desk, 11th January: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Manipur police recruits would undergo training at Assam’s Dergaon Police Training Centre due to the tense situation prevailing in Manipur.

The decision follows an official request made by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh during a recent non-political meeting with CM Sarma.

The move aims to provide a conducive environment for training amid the challenging circumstances in Manipur.

During a press conference in Guwahati, CM Sarma unveiled various government schemes, including the upcoming ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita’ for women self-help groups in rural areas. The scheme involves providing an initial amount of Rs 10,000 in the first year, Rs 12,500 from the state government in the second year, and a corresponding bank loan of Rs 12,500 to beneficiaries, with the loan repayable by the beneficiary.

Specific criteria were outlined for beneficiaries, such as restricting the number of children to three for women in general and OBC categories, and a maximum of four children for women beneficiaries from Moran, Matak, Tea community, and SC/ST categories to avail of the scheme’s benefits.
