Manipur Police Rescue Abducted Medical Officer, Recover Arms and Narcotics

Imphal: Manipur Police successfully rescued Dr. Kh. Nabakeshore, a medical officer who was kidnapped from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai on November 22, 2024.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom and issued threats to the victim’s life.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the police tracked the victim to a farmhouse in Lamdeng under Lamshang Police Station.

A rescue operation conducted on November 24 led to the safe recovery of Dr. Nabakeshore and the arrest of four individuals involved in the crime.

The suspects arrested include Wahengbam Ramananda, alias Rousow or Luwangamba, reportedly linked to the KCP (MC) Lalumba group; Wahengbam Usharani, alias Piyari or Abem; Naoraibam Joyshankar, aged 39; and Leichombam Bipin Singh, aged 32.

During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered a 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine, a .32 mm pistol with a magazine, and 10 live rounds of .32 caliber ammunition from the suspects’ possession.

In a follow-up action on November 26, police apprehended another suspect, Paonam Shamungou, alias Pintu. A search at the residence of the main suspect, Ramananda, revealed a significant cache of arms and ammunition, along with suspected narcotics.

The items seized included three pistols, one of which was loaded with 9mm ammunition, a revolver, two carbine magazines, and 28 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition. Additionally, officers found a .22 rifle, four detonators, and eight soap caps suspected to contain heroin No. 4.

The police are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the abduction and the suspected criminal network. Authorities believe the recovered cache of arms and narcotics points to a larger criminal nexus, which will be thoroughly probed in the coming days.

Manipur Police have reiterated their commitment to public safety and urged citizens to report suspicious activities. They have assured the public that stringent action will be taken against those involved in such unlawful activities to ensure a secure environment for the community.
