Manipur Police Seize 230 Grams of Suspected Heroin in Imphal West District
Northeast Desk, 26th June: Manipur Police on June 25 seized 20 soap cases containing a total of 230 grams of suspected heroin during a search operation in Imphal West district. Acting on multiple inputs, the police arrested Md. Saruk Khan, 31, and confiscated the contraband items, marking a significant advancement in the region’s fight against drug trafficking. Further investigations are underway to uncover potential connections linked to the seizure.
In a parallel initiative to combat drug trafficking and commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Customs (Preventive) Division, Imphal, executed the destruction of a substantial quantity of illicit substances on June 24, 2024. Under the directive of the Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Shillong, Meghalaya, the operation aligned with India’s ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India) campaign.
The event, held at a brick field in Nachou Panthong, Bishnupur District, Manipur, saw the destruction of 18.69 kilograms of Amphetamine/Methamphetamine, 3.19151 kilograms of Heroin Powder, and 3016.93 kilograms of Ganja (both compressed and uncompressed). The operation was overseen by a high-level committee from the Customs Commissionerate, including the Chairman and other key members.
These coordinated efforts reflect the ongoing commitment of Manipur authorities to eradicate drug trafficking and promote a drug-free society.
