Manipur Polls: Youngest candidate Ningthoujam Popilal Singh has zero assets

Guwahati: Ningthoujam Popilal Singh, the youngest contender in the upcoming Manipur Assembly Election 2022, has not mentioned any assets in his affidavit.

Popilal, a 26-year-old NCP candidate from Sekmai Assembly constituency (AC), filed his election nomination for the state general election at the office of RO 16-Sekmai AC on Monday. During Tuesday’s investigation, his nomination was determined to be genuine.

Popilal from Phayeng Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, is a grower, according to the affidavit.

As stated in the affidavit, he, on the other hand, has no source of income. He also had no moveable or immovable assets and no cash on hand, according to the affidavit.

He also has a defamation case pending, which he allegedly committed in 2018.

It may be mentioned that Popilal completed his bachelor’s degree from Manipur University in 2016.

He was a contender for a Sekmai AC INC ticket. Ningthoujam Biren Singh, on the other hand, was handed the ticket. Popilal resigned from the Congress party and joined the Nationalist Congress Party after being denied an INC ticket (NCP).
