Northeast Desk, 7th June: Amidst escalating tensions in Manipur, an alleged beheading incident occurred in Jiribam, where Soibam Saratkumar Singh (59) was reportedly attacked by armed miscreants while checking on his farm.
In response to the incident and concerns over potential disturbances, irate locals retaliated by setting fire to an abandoned structure and staging a protest in front of the Jiribam police station. They demanded the return of licensed firearms taken from them after the completion of the polls.
To maintain public tranquility amidst rising tensions, Krishna Kumar, IAS, District Magistrate of Jiribam, imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1973. These orders aim to prevent unlawful activities and potential threats to life and property.
The prohibitions include:

- Restriction on Movement: Movement outside residences within the revenue jurisdiction of Jiribam District is restricted, except for government agencies, functionaries, and security forces involved in law enforcement and essential services.
Exceptions are made for emergencies and for individuals seeking to conduct processions for marriages, funerals, or other events, provided they obtain written permission from authorities.
This ex-parte order, effective immediately, is intended to safeguard public peace and security in Jiribam District amidst the ongoing tensions.
