Manipur: Rahul Gandhi Engages with Victims in Jiribam’s relief camp Amidst Security Concerns
Northeast Desk, 8th July: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visited a relief camp at Jiribham Higher Secondary School in Manipur, meeting with residents affected by ongoing ethnic violence. His visit comes amidst heightened security concerns, highlighted by an attack on security forces in the Faiton Area just hours before his arrival. Unidentified assailants reportedly initiated gunfire, resulting in injuries to several personnel, prompting retaliatory measures.
Gandhi’s trip to Manipur has drawn criticism from BJP’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya, who accused him of engaging in “sick tragedy tourism.” Malviya attributed the long-standing ethnic conflict in Manipur to the Congress’s historical governance of the state. “The ethnic conflict in Manipur is a legacy of the Congress party,” Malviya stated, pointing to decades of violence involving civilians, police, and military personnel during Congress’s tenure.
As tensions simmer in Manipur, Gandhi’s visit underscores ongoing challenges in the region, with political rhetoric intensifying amidst security incidents and humanitarian efforts.
