Manipur Reviews Border Security, IDP Rehabilitation, Law and Order with Union Home Secretary
Imphal, Manipur: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan today concluded a comprehensive review of critical issues plaguing Manipur, including the sensitive matters of border security, the pressing need for rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the prevailing law and order situation. The high-level meeting saw him calling on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for detailed deliberations.
The crucial discussions, as per an official communiqué, were attended by a power-packed delegation. Among those present were Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, Manipur Chief Secretary PK Singh, the Security Advisor to the Manipur government, and a host of other senior officials. The focus remained squarely on accelerating relief and rehabilitation efforts for IDPs, assessing the ongoing progress of border fencing along the porous Indo-Myanmar border, and reinforcing measures to maintain peace and stability across the state.
A significant portion of the review was dedicated to a meticulous assessment of the support being extended to IDPs in both the hill and valley regions. Officials delved into the efficacy of current relief facilities, the status of rehabilitation measures, and engaged in strategic discussions to formulate a robust long-term resettlement strategy for those displaced.
Beyond the conference room, the Union Home Secretary and his team made a direct connection with the ground reality, visiting two relief camps in Churachandpur: Dorcas Veng and Sadhbhavna Mandap at Tuibong. At Dorcas Veng, a heartening step towards community welfare was taken with the inauguration of a crèche facility and a women’s tailoring programme. Meanwhile, at Sadhbhavna Mandap, a crèche-cum-children’s library was launched, underscoring the commitment to strengthening child welfare initiatives within the camps.
During these visits, the team engaged in direct interaction with the displaced families, meticulously inspected the existing infrastructure and relief materials, and patiently listened to the concerns articulated by IDP caretakers. Assurances of sustained government support were extended to all, offering a glimmer of hope amidst challenging circumstances.
In a heartwarming gesture of encouragement and recognition, fifteen bright students from the two camps – five from Dorcas Veng and ten from Tuibong – who successfully cleared their HSLC and Higher Secondary Examinations 2025, were felicitated by the Union Home Secretary. They received certificates of appreciation, acknowledging their resilience and academic achievements against all odds. The visiting team also included Manipur Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, Churachandpur Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, and other senior administrative and security officials, highlighting the collective commitment to addressing Manipur’s multifaceted challenges.
