Northeast Desk, 2nd May: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has declared a total shutdown in Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District on May 3 to solemnly observe the Kuki-Zo Martyrs’ One Year Remembrance Day.

Under the theme “Be Strong and Courageous,” drawn from Joshua 1:9, the Kuki-Zo community will gather at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Phaijang village to commemorate the occasion, organized by CoTU.

The shutdown will commence from midnight on May 2 and conclude at midnight on May 3, as directed by CoTU. Residents are urged to hoist black flags at their homes and participate in candlelight vigils starting from 7 p.m. onwards.

A profound gun salute will pay homage to the fallen Kuki-Zo community members during the solemn noon session, accompanied by a candlelight vigil. Participants are requested to wear solemn black attire.

Following the noon session, CoTU leaders will present a memorandum regarding the Kuki-Zo’s separate administration movement to the Prime Minister of India through the Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi.

During the observance, all other activities, including traveling and jhumming, are strictly restricted to honor the fallen martyrs. All members of the Kuki-Zo community in the district are expected to participate in the observation event from 11:00 a.m. to 3:09 p.m.

Additionally, churches in Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District will hold mass prayers within their premises, followed by candlelight vigils, as a tribute to the fallen Kuki-Zo martyrs and a demonstration of unity.
