Manipur Schools Shut Down Amidst Heightened Security

Imphal: In a bid to ensure the safety of students and faculty, the Manipur government has ordered the closure of all government schools, colleges, and state universities until November 19, 2024.

The decision comes in the wake of escalating violence and the imposition of a curfew in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.

The Secretariat Higher and Technical Education Department issued a notification citing the prevailing security situation as the primary reason for the closure. The move underscores the gravity of the ongoing conflict, which has led to widespread unrest and loss of life.

As tensions continue to simmer, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of three high-profile cases related to the recent violence. These cases include the killing of a woman in Jiribam, the attack on a CRPF post in Borobekra, and the arson attacks and killings in the same area.

To curb the spread of misinformation and prevent further escalation, internet services have been suspended across seven districts. Additionally, security forces have been deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order, particularly in areas around the Chief Minister’s residence and the Raj Bhavan.

The ongoing crisis has cast a shadow over the state, with residents grappling with fear and uncertainty. The closure of educational institutions has disrupted academic schedules, while the internet shutdown has hindered communication.
