Manipur: Section 144 imposed after fresh violence in Churachandpur
Northeast Desk, 19th December: The Churachandpur district in Manipur witnesses an extension of Section 144 for an additional two months in response to recent violence, prompting the state government’s intervention. The decision follows clashes between two groups and sporadic violence reported in various town areas, particularly at Thingkangphai village on December 18.
In a swift response to the unrest, local authorities enforce Section 144, prohibiting the assembly of four or more people to prevent further disturbances and the spread of misinformation. These measures are implemented with the primary goal of maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of citizens in the affected area.
The extension of Section 144 highlights the government’s dedication to restoring peace and preventing any potential untoward incidents. As the district grapples with the aftermath of the violence and ongoing socio-political issues, the prolonged imposition of Section 144 serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance required to address community concerns while maintaining law and order.
