Manipur Security Advisor Addresses Media on Recent Attacks in Moreh, Points to Kuki Village Volunteers as Suspects
Northeast Desk, 11th January: Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh held a press conference to provide clarity on the recent attacks on security forces in Moreh, located on the Indo-Myanmar border within Indian territory.
Singh stated that an ongoing investigation into the attacks revealed no evidence of involvement by Myanmar-based militants. Instead, reports suggest the involvement of Kuki village volunteers and suspected Kuki militants in the attacks on security forces in Moreh.
During the press conference on the 190th death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh, Singh emphasized that the attackers aimed to repel state forces and commandos. However, no militants have been arrested thus far.
Singh mentioned that the investigation also focuses on the use of sophisticated weapons during the attacks and assured that the details would be verified once the investigation is complete. He emphasized that any person involved in the attacks, whether militants from Myanmar or Manipur, would be arrested.
The attacks on security forces in Moreh, occurring since December 30, involved the use of highly sophisticated weapons. Thirteen security personnel, including 10 special commandos and 3 BSF members, sustained injuries in multiple attacks carried out by armed militants between December 30 and January 2, 2024, at Moreh.
