Security forces in Manipur on Tuesday, June 17, delivered a significant blow to the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), apprehending four active members in a series of swift and coordinated operations across the state. The arrests, spearheaded by law enforcement units operating under the Imphal West and Bishnupur police jurisdictions, underscore the ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks and curb their extortion activities.
In a meticulously planned operation, Lamphel Police Station personnel successfully apprehended 22-year-old Yumnam Jenica of Moirangkampu Awang Leikai, Imphal East District, from Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai in Imphal West. Authorities revealed that Jenica was a key player in the outfit’s extortion racket, preying on innocent civilians. Incriminating evidence, including a mobile phone and ₹2,500 in cash, was recovered from her possession at the time of her arrest.
Meanwhile, in a separate but equally effective operation, Bishnupur Police Station scored a double win, nabbing two more active members of the KCP (People’s War Group – PWG) from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou in Bishnupur District. The arrested individuals have been identified as Khomdram Joy Singh alias Khagemba, 51, a resident of Nambol Lourembam currently residing in Ningthoukhong, and Maibam Memcha Devi, 49, a resident of Wangoo Mamang Sabal. Both are alleged to have been deeply involved in a multitude of extortion cases, targeting local businessmen and residents alike, creating an atmosphere of fear and apprehension. Security personnel recovered a .32 calibre pistol with an empty magazine and four mobile phones from their possession, further solidifying the charges against them.
All four arrested individuals are presently in police custody, facing rigorous interrogation as authorities work tirelessly to unravel the broader web of extortionists and their sinister connections to insurgent outfits plaguing the region. The arrests serve as a stark warning to those engaged in such illicit activities, reiterating the unwavering resolve of law enforcement to ensure peace and security in Manipur.
