Manipur: Security Crackdown Yields Significant Weapons Seizures and Detentions
Northeast Desk, 16th July: In a concerted effort to bolster security measures across Manipur, authorities have established 127 Nakas and checkpoints spanning various districts, encompassing both hill and valley regions. This initiative has resulted in the detention of 102 individuals for various violations, underscoring a robust crackdown on lawlessness in the state.
Security forces have undertaken extensive search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable fringe areas of both hill and valley districts. These efforts have led to notable recoveries of weapons and ammunition.
Specifically, in Churachandpur District, security personnel recovered a pumpi from locations including Kaprang, Kipmunnuam, Saihenjang, and adjacent areas.
The operations have facilitated the movement of essential goods, with 216 and 288 vehicles escorted along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively. Strict security measures have been enforced at critical points, with security convoys deployed on sensitive stretches to ensure safe passage.
Detailed search operations in Imphal East District yielded significant recoveries, including an AK-56 rifle with an empty magazine, an SLR with a magazine, a locally made SLR with an empty magazine, a .38 pistol with an empty magazine, a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, a .32 pistol with a magazine, as well as various other weapons, ammunition, hand grenades, and live rounds.
In Thoubal District, operations resulted in the seizure of a SMG Carbine with a magazine, a Single Barrel firearm, a wireless set, multiple hand grenades, mortar shells, and other explosive devices from the Waithou Hill area.
These actions underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Manipur, with confiscated items handed over to relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.
