
Manipur Security Forces Arrest Four Militants in Coordinated Operations
Imphal — In a major security crackdown, Manipur security forces apprehended four militants linked to different insurgent groups across Bishnupur, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts in a series of coordinated operations.
On February 17, a joint operation led to the arrest of a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadre, Thokchom Ajit Singh alias Nanao, 40, from the Leimaram Canal area under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district. Authorities recovered a mobile phone with a Jio SIM card from his possession, which is now under forensic examination.
The following day, on February 18, security forces detained two active members of the proscribed PREPAK (PRO) outfit in separate incidents. Thokchom Sanathoi Singh alias Chongthoiba, 24, was apprehended near the Mahindra Showroom in Okshongbung along Tiddim Road under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur district. A mobile phone with an Airtel SIM card and an Aadhaar card were seized from him. Meanwhile, Salam Sitoljit Singh alias Seventy alias Sevenkumar, 36, was arrested from Uripok Khumanthem Leikai under Imphal Police Station, Imphal West district. He was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting civilians, with a mobile handset recovered from his possession.
In another major breakthrough on the same day, Manipur Police arrested Waikhom Ibungo Meitei alias Mangal, 26, an active member of the banned outfit RPF/PLA, from Hatta Golapati near Public Hospital under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East district. Meitei was reportedly engaged in extortion activities targeting government officials, schools, and colleges. Authorities seized two mobile phones and a two-wheeler from him, which are now being analyzed for potential links to larger networks.
Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance across the state, with intensified surveillance and operations aimed at curbing insurgent activities and ensuring public safety.
