Manipur Security Forces Arrest Three Arambai Tenggol Members Involved in Extortion
Imphal: Security forces in Manipur on February 1 arrested three members of the radical group Arambai Tenggol for their alleged involvement in extortion activities in Imphal West district.
The arrests took place in Keithelmanbi, where the suspects were accused of issuing fake challans to commercial vehicle drivers along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway for money collection.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjam George Singh (28), Abujam Narendra Singh (21), and Wahengbam Amarjit Singh (35). During the operation, security forces recovered several items from their possession, including:
- One thermal printer with 09 paper rolls
- Two handheld wireless sets with one extra antenna
- Two Aadhaar cards
- Two notebooks
- Two wallets
- A sum of Rs 1,600
- One four-wheeler
The security forces have continued their search operations in the region, focusing on hill and valley districts, which are considered vulnerable to such activities. Movement of vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highways 2 and 37 was ensured, with strict security measures in place. A total of 111 checkpoints were established across districts, though no further detentions were made.
Authorities are working to maintain law and order, ensuring safe transportation and the protection of public safety in sensitive areas.
