Manipur: Security Forces Capture NRFM Extortionist in Imphal Crackdown

Northeast Desk, 8th May: A significant blow was dealt to the extortion racket orchestrated by the banned National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) with the arrest of an active cadre in Imphal on May 7. The apprehended rebel, identified as 33-year-old Heisnam James Singh alias Kumar, was captured from the Lamphel RIMS Road near the RIMS Gate.

Singh’s arrest came as a result of a crackdown on the outfit’s extortion operations in the Imphal area. Security personnel seized a two-wheeler and a mobile phone from his possession. The NRFM cadre’s modus operandi involved extorting money from various individuals and establishments in the state capital, instilling fear and intimidation.

Security forces have heightened their efforts against proscribed outfits operating in the region, intensifying operations to curb their illegal activities that pose a threat to peace and normalcy.
