Manipur Security Forces Crack Down on Militant Elements
Imphal: Manipur’s security forces have stepped up their operations against militant groups, extortion networks, and criminal activities across the state. This intensified effort has led to significant arrests and increased vehicle checks, showcasing the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order.
On May 11, 2025, security forces apprehended Ngangom Rabi Singh, alias Nganba, a 46-year-old active member of the banned KCP (PWG) outfit. Singh was allegedly involved in extorting money from several oil pumps in Imphal. A mobile phone was confiscated from his possession. The arrest was made in Khurai Angom Leikai, under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East District.
A day earlier, another KCP (PWG) cadre, Buyamayum Arif Khan, 30, was arrested in Lilong Ushoipokpi. Khan was accused of large-scale extortion targeting the public and various commercial establishments in Thoubal District. Authorities recovered a mobile phone and two SIM cards from him.
In a separate operation on May 10, Manipur Police recovered two stolen vehicles during a special drive to curb vehicle theft. Additionally, tinted glasses were removed from 48 vehicles to ensure security compliance.
To maintain law and order, the police established 109 checkpoints across the state, with no detentions reported. Search operations and area domination exercises were also conducted in vulnerable areas. The movement of 398 vehicles carrying essential commodities along NH-2 was ensured under strict security measures, including convoy protection in sensitive stretches.
