Northeast Desk, 27th August: In a significant crackdown on militant activities, security forces in Manipur arrested six cadres of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) during a joint operation in Awang Potsangbam, Imphal West District, on August 26. The apprehended militants were identified as Oinam Naocha Meitei (26), Tharoijam Nanao Meitei (25), Yumnam Amit Kumar (38), Sandam Roshan Meitei (24), Moirengthem Boy Singh (41), and Waribam Ibomcha Meitei (35).
The operation led to the confiscation of a substantial cache of items linked to the militant group. Among the seized materials were three gun scopes, three rounds of live ammunition, an empty tube-launching case, a four-wheeler vehicle, six mobile handsets, military fatigues, and various other items.
In a swift follow-up action, the police raided additional locations, uncovering further arms and ammunition. The raids yielded one single-barrel gun, one double-barrel (DBBL) gun, two live cartridges, three loaded AK-47 magazines containing 75 live rounds, five empty M-16 rifle magazines, 230 assorted live rounds, and seven wireless walkie-talkie sets with chargers. The authorities also confiscated military fatigues, a laptop, and a hard disk, further disrupting the outfit’s operational capabilities.
In a related incident on the same day, Manipur police arrested a cadre of the proscribed UNLF (Koireng) outfit from Heingang Makha Leikai in Imphal East. The individual, identified as Konsam Romesh Meitei (43), was reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting brickfields. During the arrest, police recovered two mobile phones, a wallet, and a two-wheeler vehicle from his possession.
These coordinated operations mark a significant blow to militant activities in the region, underscoring the ongoing efforts by security forces to restore peace and security in Manipur.
