Manipur Security Forces Net 11 Militants in Coordinated Anti-Extortion Drive

In a significant breakthrough against insurgent activities, security forces in Manipur conducted a widespread operation spanning two days, April 14th and 15th, 2025, resulting in the apprehension of eleven individuals linked to various proscribed militant organizations. The coordinated effort targeted those involved in extortion and other criminal acts against both public and private entities across the state.

The operation on April 15th saw a major success in Thoubal District, where four active operatives belonging to the banned KCP (Apunba City Meitei) faction were captured in Salungpham Mamang Leikai, near Bazar, under the jurisdiction of Heirok Police Station. The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Saruk Khan (34), Sangomsumbam Akhter Ahamed (29), Kongjengbam Kumarjit Singh (41), and Laishram Joymangol Singh (47). Investigations revealed their alleged involvement in an extensive extortion network targeting a wide range of establishments in Thoubal, including brick kilns, banks, hospitals, schools, colleges, fuel stations, shops, contractors, and stone crushers. Authorities seized a .32 caliber pistol with a magazine and three live rounds, three 36 HE hand grenades, five mobile handsets, one four-wheeler, and two two-wheelers from their possession.

Simultaneously, on the same day, Manipur Police in Imphal East District apprehended three suspected members of the outlawed SOREPA group from Waithou Chiru. The arrested individuals were identified as Leishungbam Lenin Singh (31) alias Khuman, Yumkhaibam Lukhoi Singh (32) alias Aboi, and Sagolsem Dinesh Singh (25). These individuals were reportedly involved in extorting money from educational institutions within the Yairipok area. The operation led to the recovery of three mobile phones, a two-wheeler, and other incriminating materials.

Further success was achieved in Imphal West District on April 15th with the arrest of an active member of the KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) faction. Salam Sadananda Singh alias Igocha alias Pari (31) was apprehended from a rented accommodation at Kombirei Housing Complex under Lamphel Police Station. He was allegedly involved in issuing monetary threats to residents in and around Imphal. A mobile handset and an Aadhaar Card were seized from his possession.

Earlier, on April 14th, central security forces near the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal District detained three active cadres of the United National Liberation Front (K). The arrested individuals were identified as Ningombam Shyam Singh (32), Chingangbam Johnson Meitei alias Angomcha Meitei (30), and Md. Sohel Khan (25). These coordinated arrests across multiple districts represent a significant stride in the ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks and curb their criminal activities in the region.
