Manipur Security Forces Net 13 Militants in Coordinated Crackdown Across Multiple Districts
Imphal: A significant security operation conducted on April 3rd across Manipur resulted in the apprehension of thirteen active militants belonging to various proscribed underground organizations. The coordinated effort, involving security forces and the Manipur Police, targeted the suppression of extortion and recruitment activities carried out by these banned groups within the strife-torn state.
The operation commenced with the arrest of two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) in Imphal East’s Keirao Wangkhem Mamang Leikai. Chingakham Lala Meitei, 35, and Leikhuram Henju Meitei, 36, were found to be in possession of a .32 pistol with four live rounds, along with two mobile phones.
Simultaneously, Manipur Police apprehended Laishram Birjit Singh, 39, and Chungkham Milan Singh, 31, both active cadres of the outlawed UPPK organization. These individuals were implicated in extorting funds from private schools in the Imphal area. Seized from them were two two-wheelers, two mobile phones, five ID cards, and a vehicle registration certificate.
In Bishnupur district’s Moirang Khoiru Mayai Lambi, security forces arrested Angom Ibochouba Singh, 49, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group). He was found to be directly involved in extorting money from the general public, local businesses, cement godowns, and government institutions in the Moirang region, as well as recruiting new members for the proscribed group.
Further operations in Imphal West led to the arrest of two active members of PREPAK: Sandam Gandhi Meitei, 45, and Khangembam Jilangamba Meitei, 40. They were apprehended for their involvement in extorting money from the general public, government offices, and schools. Two mobile phones and two wallets were recovered from their possession.
In Thoubal district, Thongam Roshan Singh, 35, an active cadre of KYKL(SOREPA), was arrested from the Uningkhong area for his involvement in extortion activities targeting the general public.
Another KYKL operative, Maibam Naocha Singh, 37, was apprehended in Imphal West’s Awang Sekmai Khunou Makha for issuing monetary demands and threats to college teachers in and around Imphal since December 2024. Seized items included two mobile handsets, a wallet containing Rs 2,400, an Aadhaar card, and a two-wheeler.
In Imphal East, Yendrembam Athoiba Meitei, 24, an active member of RPF/PLA, was arrested from his residence in Chingarel Tezpur Mayai Leikai, and Okram Herojit Singh, 31, an active member of KCP (City Meitei), was apprehended from Phaknung Sangomshang Litan Makhong.
Lastly, in Jiribam district, Nurul Islam, 28, was arrested from Kamaranga Village, along with four stolen two-wheelers.
