Manipur Security Forces Recover Arms and Ammunition, Detain 77 Individuals

Northeast Desk, 26th June: In a series of extensive search operations and area domination exercises, security forces in Manipur have made significant strides in enhancing safety across the state’s hill and valley districts. These operations, targeting fringe and vulnerable areas, resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, as well as the detainment of 77 individuals for various violations.

The Manipur Police, ensuring the movement of essential items, oversaw the transit of 85 vehicles along NH-37 and 243 vehicles along NH-2. Stringent security measures were implemented in vulnerable locations, including security convoys for sensitive stretches to guarantee the safe passage of vehicles. Additionally, 125 checkpoints were established across the state.

In a notable search operation between Mongjarong Khunou and Old Nungnang village in Noney district, security forces recovered:

  • One 5.56 HK Assault Rifle with magazine
  • One 7.62 rifle
  • One carbine machine gun with magazine
  • Three .32 pistols with magazines
  • Three Lathode grenades
  • Two handheld radio sets
  • Three live rounds of ammunition
  • One tactical pouch with belt

Further operations in Maojang, Tengnoupal district, yielded:

  • One AK-47 Rifle with two magazines
  • One country-made .22 rifle with magazine
  • Fourteen live rounds of ammunition
  • Four SBBL guns
  • One Sig-Sauer pistol with one magazine
  • Three IEDs and one suspected IED case box
  • Various tactical gear including a shot gun belt, sling, three Tac phones with batteries, five BPJs, one combat dress, one combat t-shirt, one sleeping bag, one black carrying bag, four empty pipes, one black pipe, and 100 gm of suspected gun powder

In Purum Khullen Village, Kakching district, the recovery included:

  • One bulletproof jacket
  • Three Indian-made hand grenades
  • Nine live rounds
  • One locally-made Pompi

Operations in Lailoiphai, Dongjang, and Hengken villages in Churchandpur district uncovered:

  • Two pumpis with eight rounds
  • A single barrel firearm

These concerted efforts by security forces underscore their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Manipur, demonstrating a proactive approach to combating illegal activities and ensuring the safety of the state’s residents.
