Manipur Security Forces Rescue Abducted Civilians, Seize Drugs and Weapons in Statewide Crackdown
Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have intensified their crackdown on criminal activities, successfully rescuing two abducted civilians and seizing a substantial quantity of illegal drugs and weapons in a series of coordinated operations this week.
In a swift rescue mission on February 5, Manipur Police freed two kidnapped labourers from Assam—37-year-old Rintu Mina and 20-year-old Montu Sheikh—who had been abducted near the Public Hospital in Hatta.
Acting on intelligence, the police arrested the suspected kidnapper, 41-year-old Md. Anwar Hussain, from the Kairang-Heingang Khong area, bringing a swift resolution to the case.
The following day saw major drug busts in different parts of the state. Security personnel at Moreh Gate No. 1 intercepted 40-year-old Zamkholun Baite, who was caught with approximately 1.5 kg of WIY tablets, a narcotic substance commonly trafficked across the region.
In another operation in Bishnupur District, law enforcement officers arrested Md. Tajuddin, 29, after discovering 1,041 grams of suspected brown sugar in his possession. Both suspects were also found carrying mobile phones and vehicles, which are now under investigation.
Further strengthening their efforts to curb crime, security forces conducted a sweep of the Wangoo Mameiching and Nongyai Hill range, uncovering a significant weapons cache. The recovered arsenal included a single-barrel gun, an SLR rifle, two high-explosive grenades, tear gas munitions, and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 600 grams.
The recent operations highlight Manipur’s continued efforts to combat illegal activities, with security forces remaining vigilant in their mission to restore peace and law and order across the state.
