Manipur: Security Forces Tighten Grip in State as Arms Recovered and Militants Arrested

Imphal: Manipur remains on high alert as security forces continue to ramp up search operations and enforce control measures across key districts. Over the past 24 hours, extensive area domination exercises have been conducted in both hill and valley regions to curb unrest and prevent further escalation of violence.

In a significant breakthrough, security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the Ibudou Koubru Laibung temple area. Among the seized items were a .303 rifle with a magazine, a CMG firearm with a magazine, ten live rounds of .303 rifle ammunition, and sixteen CMG rounds, including six misfire rounds. Authorities suspect these weapons were stockpiled by insurgent elements.

Meanwhile, in Maojang village near H. Munnom, multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were discovered, posing a serious threat to public safety. The explosives, weighing between 4 kg and 22 kg, were equipped with detonators, making them highly unstable. A specialized Bomb Disposal team swiftly neutralized the devices, preventing any potential attack.

Responding to a recent appeal by the Governor of Manipur urging the surrender of illegal arms, several weapons were voluntarily handed over to law enforcement agencies. A .303 rifle, thirteen rounds of ammunition, bulletproof vests, BP plates, and helmets were surrendered at the SP Kakching office. Additionally, in Kangpokpi District, a looted tear gas gun was returned at the G. Saparmeina police station. In the Kakching Wairi area, security forces intercepted a large cache of illegal arms, including INSAS rifles, shotguns, pistols, hand grenades, and communication equipment, signaling a major crackdown on unauthorized weaponry.

In a decisive move against insurgent activities, security forces apprehended six members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (Ibungo Ngangom) faction in Imphal West District. Those arrested have been identified as Shirimayum Suraj Sharma alias Lion (21), Nutum Leishemba alias Pari (25), Ningthoukhongjam Khedasana alias Naoba (29), Senjam Yaiphaba alias Malan (19), Laishram Leishemba alias Malem (26), and Laishram Kenedy alias Thouna (32). Intelligence inputs suggest that the group was actively involved in subversive activities in the region.

Additionally, two members of the G5 Organization were arrested in Imphal East District for extorting truck drivers transporting sand across key routes. The accused, Ningthoujam Yamba Singh (43) and Usham Netaji Singh (35), were caught with a four-wheeler, mobile phones, wallets, identity documents, and cash, confirming their involvement in illegal financial demands from transport operators.

To ensure uninterrupted movement of essential supplies, security personnel facilitated the passage of 369 vehicles along National Highway-2 and 225 vehicles on National Highway-37 under strict surveillance. Furthermore, 110 security checkpoints were established across various districts, ensuring thorough inspections and preventing any law-and-order violations.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or believing in misleading videos circulating on social media. A designated helpline (9233522822) has been launched for the verification of any suspicious content. Additionally, citizens have been reminded to surrender any looted weapons or explosives to the nearest police station or security personnel.

With ongoing operations and heightened vigilance, security forces remain committed to restoring stability in Manipur, countering insurgency threats, and ensuring the safety of its residents.
