Manipur: Senapati Action Committee Issues Ultimatum to Kuki Community Following Assault on SDSA Leaders

In response to the December 22 assault on leaders of the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) at Gamgiphai Check Post, the newly formed Senapati Action Committee (SAC) has issued a stern directive to the Kuki community, barring their travel to or residence in the Senapati district and its surrounding areas with immediate effect.

The SAC, in its official statement, condemned the repeated harassment faced by its citizens and expressed deep frustration over the latest attack on SDSA’s President, Vice-President, and General Secretary. The committee demanded that authorities identify and present the culprits involved in the incident for action by the SAC. Failure to comply, the statement warned, would result in escalatory measures, the consequences of which the SAC would not take responsibility for.

The SAC accused the alleged perpetrators, reportedly Kuki volunteers, of breaching a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 21, 2024, between the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) and the Committee of Tribal Unity (CoTU). The MoU was aimed at fostering peace and mutual respect between the communities, but the SAC argued that the recent assault undermined these efforts.

The SDSA convened in the wake of the incident and unanimously decided to form the SAC to seek justice for the targeted attack on its leadership. As part of its measures, the SAC has declared that members of the Kuki community should refrain from entering Naga-inhabited regions of Senapati district until an amicable resolution is reached.

The ultimatum underscores the growing tensions in the region and highlights the SAC’s insistence on accountability and adherence to the peace agreements already in place.
