Manipur: Senapati District Students’ Association Accuses Assam Rifles

Imphal: The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has levelled serious allegations against the Assam Rifles, claiming that the paramilitary force facilitated the movement of militants in Naga-inhabited regions.

According to SDSA President Saloni Tony, their officials personally witnessed Assam Rifles personnel allegedly escorting cadres of the United People’s Front (UPF), a Kuki militant group under the Suspension of Operations (SOO) agreement.

Tony asserted that the incident indicates a tacit understanding between the paramilitary force and the armed group. He condemned the purported collusion, questioning whether Assam Rifles was attempting to disrupt the peace and create distrust among the people of Senapati.

The SDSA President also expressed concerns over the decision of the Assam Rifles’ Director General to engage in dialogue with top Kuki militant leaders at a time of heightened tensions.

Urging the paramilitary force to maintain neutrality, Tony called for an expedited peace process without favouring any particular armed faction.

The allegations have sparked concerns about the role of the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and stability in the region. The Assam Rifles has a complex history, with dual control and command structures that have raised questions about its effectiveness.
