Manipur: Senapati Gears Up for District-Wide Civil Defence Drill ‘Operation Abhyaas’ on May 16
Imphal: A large-scale civil defence mock drill, codenamed Operation Abhyaas, will be conducted in Senapati district on May 16 at 10:30 am, centred around the Mini Secretariat Complex. The exercise, part of a nationwide initiative under the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, aims to reinforce disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities at the district level.
Preparations for the event were finalised during a coordination meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley at the DC Conference Hall. The session focused on task allocation and ensuring seamless coordination among participating departments, including the police, fire services, CRPF, Assam Rifles, health officials, MSPDCL, and volunteer groups such as NCC, NSS, NYK, and the Indian Red Cross Society.
The simulated drill will feature a range of emergency response activities, including air raid sirens, public safety announcements, fire engine alerts, and blackout simulations. Teams will also carry out rescue missions, casualty evacuations from mock-damaged structures, and set up temporary hospital stations to provide emergency treatment. Civilians will be guided through evacuation procedures to designated bunkers, while the public will receive live safety training during the exercise.
Senior officials including the superintendent of police, additional deputy commissioner, sub-divisional officers, and school representatives attended the planning meet, highlighting the collaborative nature of the operation.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperative during the simulation, emphasising that Operation Abhyaas is a proactive measure to strengthen Senapati’s readiness in the face of any disaster or emergency situation.
