Northeast Desk, 22nd June: In response to rising tensions and a recent act of arson, the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has enacted stringent measures to safeguard its community and preserve peace along National Highway 2 (NH-2). The announcement, referenced as SDSA/64/22-24, follows an appeal made on June 3, 2024, urging all parties to avoid disrupting vehicular movements and to maintain the highway as a harassment-free zone.
The SDSA criticized the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) for ignoring their appeal, considering this disregard a direct challenge to their authority and a significant threat to community safety. The student body demands the identification and legal punishment of those responsible for the recent aggression.
Based on a resolution from the 2nd Federal Assembly held on June 1, 2024, at Nteiramphung (Tumnoupokpi), the SDSA has issued the following directives:
- Responsibility Clause: The SDSA will not be held accountable for any consequences faced by the Kuki-zo community within Senapati. The CoTU and its affiliates will bear full responsibility for any adverse outcomes.
- Goods Embargo: Effective immediately, no goods or commodities will be supplied to the Kuki-zo areas from Senapati or any sources within the SDSA’s jurisdiction. This embargo responds to the aggression faced and aims to protect the community’s interests.
- Trade Ban: All individuals, businesses, and firms within Senapati are prohibited from engaging in any commercial transactions or trade with the Kuki-zo community. This ban encompasses all economic interactions.
The SDSA cautions that any violations of these orders will result in the violators bearing full responsibility for any resulting harm or misfortune. The SDSA will not be held accountable for the repercussions of non-compliance.
