Manipur: Severe Hailstorm Ravages Imphal, Residents Struggle with Fallout
Northeast Desk, 5th May: Imphal, the bustling capital city of Manipur, found itself in the throes of devastation today as a severe hailstorm swept through the region around 1400 hours, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The aftermath of the natural disaster has plunged residents into turmoil as they grapple with the extensive damage inflicted upon property and crops alike.
In the midst of the chaos, one concerned citizen took to the social media platform ‘X’ to articulate their apprehensions regarding the underlying causes of such extreme weather events.
Drawing attention to the overarching impact of climate change in Manipur, the citizen pointed fingers at the pernicious activities of illegal migrants, who, they claimed, engage in wanton deforestation for poppy cultivation and establish unauthorized settlements.
“Look at this hailstorm in Manipur today at about 1400h. This is the impact of climate change in Manipur caused by illegal migrants clearing forest for poppy plantation and making random illegal habitation centers. Such hailstorms, which were rare, are now very common this year,” the concerned citizen lamented on ‘X’.
The poignant expression of concern underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change and the unchecked activities of illegal migrants, ensuring the protection of Manipur’s fragile ecosystem and the well-being of its inhabitants.
