Manipur: State-Wide Crackdown Nets Illegal Liquor and Fugitive
Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces have reported a successful series of operations across the state, resulting in substantial seizures of illicit liquor and the capture of individuals involved in unlawful activities.
In one significant incident on April 5th, vigilance at the Tengnoupal Naka Check Post led to the interception of a vehicle en route from Moreh to Imphal. Authorities discovered five boxes containing a total of 120 bottles of what is believed to be Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) during the inspection of the four-wheeler.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Md Zamir Khan, a resident of Moreh Ward No. IV in the Tengnoupal district, was immediately taken into custody. Both the seized illegal liquor and the apprehended individual are now subject to further legal procedures.
Simultaneously, on the same day, the Manipur Police executed coordinated raids targeting illegal liquor vendors in various localities within Churachandpur. These actions were prompted by numerous complaints from local residents concerning the increasing late-night presence of young individuals at establishments selling liquor. The operations covered areas including Rengkai, Bible Hill, Zou Colony, and Lighthouse Lane.
During these raids, law enforcement successfully confiscated and subsequently disposed of significant quantities of illegal alcoholic beverages. This included 517 litres of locally brewed wine, 8 litres of IMFL rum, 212 cans of beer, and 49 litres of IMFL whiskey. The primary objective of this crackdown was to address the growing public disturbance and the unlawful distribution of liquor within residential areas.
Adding to the successes, on April 4th, the Special Operations Team of Manipur Police achieved a breakthrough with the apprehension of J. Maikho, a 38-year-old resident of Saranamai Village in the Senapati district. This individual was a wanted suspect in connection with a drug transportation case that had been previously registered at the Chümoukedima Police Station in Nagaland. Following his capture, J. Maikho was promptly handed over to the Narcotic Police Station at PHQ Kohima for further investigation into the pending case.
