Manipur Students Protest on Children’s Day Demanding Safe Release of Abducted Victims

Imphal: Students across Manipur marked Children’s Day as “Black Children’s Day” in response to the abduction of six individuals, including a 10-month-old infant, allegedly by Kuki militants. The incident occurred on November 11 in the Borobekra sub-division, following a violent clash between Kuki militants and CRPF personnel. Despite ongoing efforts by authorities, the whereabouts of the three women and three children remain unknown.

Protests erupted across the valley as students condemned the abduction as a senseless act of violence. Demonstrators, organized by the student wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), voiced their outrage, calling for the immediate release of the victims. Placards carried by the protesters read, “No Children’s Day until the captured children are released,” and “Mr. CM, we demand the release of the victims as a Children’s Day gift.”

A student protestor shared the collective anguish, emphasizing that celebrating Children’s Day felt meaningless while the victims remained in captivity. The protestors expressed deep sorrow over the harm inflicted on innocent children and women and urged the state government to take swift action to ensure their safe return.

COCOMI criticized the government’s failure to secure the hostages’ release and reiterated the importance of upholding the rule of law and safeguarding citizens. The protest underscored the emotional and urgent plea for justice and the safe return of the abducted individuals.
