Manipur Takes Strides Towards a Plastic Waste-Free State with Innovative Bottle Bank Initiative

Northeast Desk, 11th December: The Directorate of Environment and Climate Change in Manipur is spearheading a visionary plan to make the state a plastic waste-free haven. In a strategic move aligned with environmental guidelines, plastic bottle banks were distributed at the Directorate’s office premises in Porompat on December 11, marking a significant step towards addressing plastic pollution.

The initiative follows the success of a pilot project in Ukhrul and Noney districts, where proactive youth played a pivotal role in collecting plastic waste through distributed bottle banks. The Directorate commended these volunteers, acknowledging their crucial contribution to the program.

The official function, graced by Minister Th Biswajit Singh, emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in preserving the environment. Singh urged strict adherence to environmental protection laws, highlighting that Earth is humanity’s sole habitat.

Director T Brajakumar outlined the challenges faced in controlling plastic waste due to improper disposal practices but expressed determination to make Manipur a pioneer in achieving a plastic-waste-free status. Emphasizing the crucial role of public participation, Brajakumar called on society to actively engage in segregating plastic waste in designated areas, highlighting the potential of plastic recycling as a valuable community resource.
