Manipur: Thadou Community International Rebuts Allegations by Thadou Tribe Council, Asserts Legitimacy
Northeast, August 18, 2024 — In a strong rebuttal to recent accusations, the Thadou Community International (TCI) has condemned the Thadou Tribe Council (TTC-GHQ) for spreading what it terms as “false and misleading” claims. The controversy stems from an August 14, 2024, press release by TTC-GHQ, which labeled TCI as a “bogus entity” supposedly formed by non-resident Thadou individuals. In response, TCI has firmly rejected these allegations, asserting that TTC-GHQ itself is the real “bogus” organization.
Established on August 3, 2024, TCI is a global network that represents Thadou people across several countries, including the USA, UK, Norway, Australia, Myanmar, India, Singapore, Macau, and Malaysia. TCI’s mission is to defend the rights and promote the welfare of the Thadou community worldwide. The organization, led by two convenors and a team of 30 executive members, is dedicated to fostering justice, peace, and unity among Thadou people, countering what they describe as misinformation spread by TTC-GHQ.
In its defense, TCI criticized TTC-GHQ’s claim of being the apex body of the Thadou Tribe, pointing out that the Thadou Tribe Council was rebranded as Thadou Inpi following the Thadou Conclave Declaration in 2015. TCI argues that the recent reformation of TTC-GHQ in Churachandpur is an effort by anti-Thadou factions and Kuki supremacists to sow discord within the Thadou community.
The ongoing dispute highlights the complex dynamics within the Thadou community and raises concerns about efforts to undermine unity among its members. TCI’s statement underscores its commitment to protecting the interests of Thadou people globally while challenging what it views as illegitimate claims to leadership by TTC-GHQ.
