Manipur: Thadou Delegation Arrives in Imphal for Historic Peace Talks with CSOs

Imphal: In a truly significant development, a 16-member delegation from Thadou Inpi Manipur has arrived in Imphal, embarking on what many see as a crucial journey towards reconciliation and peace in the state.

This is the first time since the ethnic unrest began in 2023 that an apex body of the Thadou community has visited the state capital for direct dialogue.

The delegation is currently engaged in talks with a wide range of civil society organisations and student bodies, with the clear agenda of fostering communal harmony and exploring a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict.

The meeting, held in Imphal, has brought together a formidable group of stakeholders from the valley. Prominent CSOs like the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), and the Federation of civil society organisation (FOCS) are all participating, alongside influential groups such as Arambai Tenggol and various women’s organisations.

Also present are key student organisations, including the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), and Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK), among others. The sheer breadth of participation underscores the gravity of this initiative and the collective desire to find common ground.

The primary focus of the discussions is believed to be the promotion of communal harmony and charting a roadmap to restore peace. This visit, coming after a prolonged period of strife, is being cautiously welcomed across the state as a potential turning point. Many are hopeful that this direct engagement will help bridge the deep divisions that have emerged and lead to a new chapter of mutual understanding. The coming days will be critical in determining if this brave step can translate into concrete actions for a peaceful and united Manipur.
