Manipur: Thoubal District Imposes Strict Prohibitory Orders Amid Rising Security Concerns

Northeast Desk, 10th September: In response to escalating security concerns, District Magistrate Ahanthem Subhash Singh has imposed stringent prohibitory orders across Thoubal District. Effective from 12 noon today, this measure follows a report from the Superintendent of Police highlighting potential breaches of peace and threats to public safety.

The police report indicates a high risk of unrest and disturbances due to the activities of certain anti-social elements. To mitigate these threats, the District Magistrate has enacted prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, which restricts movement outside residences for all residents within the district.

The orders aim to prevent any escalation of violence and maintain public tranquility. The prohibitory measures will remain in place until further notice. However, essential services such as electricity, medical care, and water supply are exempt from these restrictions. Residents requiring permissions for emergencies or special events, including marriages and funerals, must obtain written authorization from the appropriate authorities.
