Manipur: Thoubal District Issues Advisory Amid Heavy Rainfall; Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
Northeast, August 24 — With relentless heavy rainfall pounding Manipur’s Thoubal district in recent days, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued an urgent advisory, urging residents to remain indoors and take necessary precautions to prevent loss of life and property.
In its public notice, the DDMA highlighted the unexpected nature of the recent downpour and stressed the importance of vigilance, particularly for those in flood-prone areas. “In view of the urgent nature and unexpected heavy rainfall which occurred in Thoubal District in the last few days, the public of Thoubal District, especially those affected by the flood, is hereby advised to stay alert and remain indoors, taking all necessary precautions to avoid loss of life and property,” the advisory stated.
Residents are being warned to stay vigilant for potential floods and breaches in river banks and embankments. The DDMA has also urged the public to delay agricultural activities until the weather clears and the rain subsides, citing safety concerns.
In particular, the advisory stressed that children and elderly individuals should avoid going outdoors unless absolutely necessary. Additionally, the DDMA recommended that residents stay informed of the latest weather updates from state and central agencies and prepare emergency kits containing essential items like non-perishable food, water, first aid supplies, and medicines.
